Giga Khositashvili is a winner of the Turnitin Global innovation Award 2019

Giga Khositashvili, deputy director of Ilia State University Library, became winner of the Turnitin Global innovation Award 2019 in the region of Europe.

The goal of the award is to determine a successful practice of teaching and administration in the sphere of education worldwide, which is based on the principles of fairness and improvement of the quality of learning. Moreover, using the program “Turnitin” the award manifests an effective and innovative support for educational process.

Ilia State University has been using the program since the spring semester of 2015. In 2017, as a result of Iliauni’s coordination, the project, “Academic Integrity for Quality Teaching and Learning in Higher Educational Institutions In Georgia INTEGRITY”, was given funding in the Erasmus Plus institutional development Grant Award. The main goal of the project was to develop the quality of learning-teaching and assessment in the Georgia’s high educational institutions by adhering to the principles of academic fairness. In particular, the project’s aim was to formulate such policy and mechanisms that would help manifest, prevent and eradicate instances of plagiarism in high educational institutions of Georgia. Within the framework of the mentioned project, Ilia State University shared its experience of using the program “Turnitin” to the twelve high educational institutions existing in Georgia.

“Turnitin” is a leader in exposing plagiarism and providing feedback while assessing students. It is used by more than 15 000 educational institutions in the world’s 140 countries and serves 33 million students.
